Pretty Pretty Please? Our boys got sprayed by a skunk a few weeks back, Obi, the Lab didn't get it too bad, but our Beagle Snoopy, got it right in the face. We bathed them in Tomato Juice, then toothpaste & then a good quality mosturizing dog shampoo. It got most of the smell out, but whenever it rains or his head gets wet, he still stinks a bit. Also when he wakes up from a nights sleep & he is all warm & cozy, there's the skunk smell. He's had a second bath since then. Someone suggested putting a bit of vinegar in the water, but he still smells.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestiongs to get this smell out? I know that there is special "de-skunking" shampoo, but does it actually work? Any & all ideas are welcome! Thanks, Sarah & Sandy Obi & Stinkers aka Snoopy |

Hi! A few years ago, we took Abby and our boat to Toronto Island and around 10:30 pm, while walking back to the boat, Abby found a good sniff and went behind a bush, where she startled a skunk! Oh the smell....and trapped with it on a 27' sailboat!
We initally washed her with shampoo....it was all we had at that time and of course, with being on the island, at the time of the ferry strike, we were stuck. When we got her home, friends suggested using feminine douche...to neutralize the odour...It does work, but not 100% We later found that if you mix hydrogen peroxide, water and baking soda (equal parts) and then use this to wash your woofies, it elminates the rest of the odour....Be very careful not to get it anywhere near their eyes, nose or mouth! Good luck. Deanna |

Thanks Deanna.
I will definetly keep this in mind for next time. Right now the smell is mostly on the top of his head & around his face, so that might not work for that area what with me being clutzy & all!!! I think that every dog owner has probably faced this at one time or another or will & it would be great to know everyone's "secret" home remedies for this. Thanks again Deanna & Abby. |
