Beagles are a special breed. They belong in packs. Our group gathers monthly druing the summer and every three months during the winter to bring our hounds together at public NYC dog runs to give our beagles the opportunity to run together/

What should I say about beagles? I struck the doggie jackpot, that is what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who has one wants more (even in this fair city where there is no space for even your thoughts). Although its natural instinct is to hunt, it is highly adaptable and adjusts happily to a suburban backyard, or an apartment as long as it has regular exercise to keep it fit while providing it with a change of scene and scent, and company - either human or another Beagle. Otherwise there be beautiful howling.... LOL

They are friendly, playful and eager to please, but they are willful. Possessed of great stamina, determination and a definite mind of its own, this picturesque and personality-plus little hound has a tendency to do what it wants -- and you usually cannot deny him with that face and EYES. Good-natured and steady in temperament, the Beagle has an engaging demeanor which endears it to children and adults alike. A handy size for almost all households, with a handsome appearance and musical voice, the Beagle has something to offer just about everyone.

If you are here because you want to purchase a beagle, first check out rescue groups or the city animal shelters first (see below links). There are many wonderful animals in need of good homes and they DO have beagles. Many of our members hhave adopted. Don't hesitate to join to get some help from the experienced beagle owners in our site before making your purchase even though I am sure you won't ever regret getting one of these beautiful hounds!

[note: yes, everyone is welcome in this group, beagle mixes, people that want or had beagles, we just want people that love the breed and are willing to contribute in whatever way the can!

Big Apple Pets - The NYC animal shelters have an online site where you can search through and look at the dogs in need of homes.
SOS Beagles - A Tennessee based beagle rescue group that also shelters beagles in New Jersey and private foster homes in New York and Pennsylvania. There are a lot of beagles down South because of their ability to hunt and live outdoors, but often they are abandoned or lost, and rarely spayed/neutered.
B.A.R.C. - The Brooklyn Animal Rescue Coalition is a no-kill shelter. Check it out! They house 20-25 dogs and 50-60 cats at a time. A well-run shelter with veterinary services and a strong base in the community. A lot of turnover!
North Shore Animal League - Always has a lot of puppies. I don't always agree with their marketing, but the animals need help regardless.
The ASPCA - Houses over 300 dogs/cats on their site at E. 92nd Street.
